More About the Program
GirlsTech Camp is a virtual three-week camp (conducted through Zoom) designed to introduce girls in grades 6-8 to basic problem-solving skills and program development in Python. Participants will focus on developing a single application throughout the program related to a social issue of their choice (i.e. environmental change, social reform, education, etc). Core concepts from the AP Computer Science Principles curriculum will be integrated to allow students to better understand computing and technology as a whole. The program will include a dynamic line-up of engaging and motivating female guest speakers from UCI's Women in Information and Computer Sciences group that will provide girls with insider information on the importance of technology and their individual journeys in computer science. Participants will leave this program with a solid grasp of Python, information about opportunities for girls in Computer Science, and a better understanding of the relevance of computing and technology.
