Monday & Tuesday: Exploratory activities and challenges
For the first 2 days of the camp, we hope to introduce students to the 6 primary branches of STEM (engineering, math computer science, biology, chemistry, and social sciences). The structure for this part of camp will consist of larger group discussions, smaller group challenges, and discussion panels with professionals in the STEM field.
Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday: Individual project creation
The individual project creation portion will span the next 3 days of the camp as 1-2 mentors are paired with 2-4 students to conduct personalized STEM research. For this part, students will choose a relevant and applicable research topic that interests them, design a research plan, analyze their findings, draw conclusions, and ultimately prepare a Google Slides presentation explaining what they learned to be posted on the STEM & Buds website (stemandbuds.org) for the virtual end-of-program science fair.
*In order to participate, students will report to a recurring, singular Zoom meeting link daily from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM to 3 PM. From there, we will use existing features to move students into breakout rooms and present discussion panels (the students will not be responsible for joining multiple links/meetings). Further, all parents and students are welcome to join an informational session from 8:00 to 8:30 AM on the first day of each camp (August 3rd or August 10th). The Zoom link for this meeting will be the same as the one for the camp itself (to be sent the week before the start of the program).
