More About the Program

Program leaders Lola Kovalski and Makenna Lindsay will introduce the girls participating in ITgirl to the basics of computer programming with App Inventor tutorials. In addition, ITgirl will use tutorials to teach students how to both design and program an app while managing to integrate fundamental computer science principles and ideas. The mentors, comprised of a small group of high school girls who have shown passion and talent for technology, will work with the middle school girls. The tutorials they use will range from apps for drawing and animation to apps focused on procedural abstraction. Most tutorials will be taken directly from Mobile CSP’s curriculum, and will include a video and text document that corresponds with each lesson.  ITgirl intends to make the program as adaptive as possible, which will ensure that the  participants are able to learn and code at their own pace. In addition to programming, participants will learn the importance of women in technology and will be exposed to the  multitude of opportunities available to them as females in the computer science field.
