More About the Program
This program is designed to introduce girls to careers in STEM. It is dedicated to closing the gender gap in the computing industry. By the end of the program, we hope that students will have the basic skills necessary to convey their ideas and showcase their creativity through programming. We also hope to have sparked their interest in computer science fields. Students can choose to extend their experience throughout the rest of the school year by joining the middle school's Girls Who Code Club and/or by enrolling in the computer science pathway at Alhambra High School.
For more information, contact Simarpreet.
This day will present a fast-paced introduction to the field of Information Technology and Computer Science! InfinITGirlz (that’s you) will get a brief overview of the ICT pathway at AHS and learn about the fun and fantastic opportunities awaiting you in high school. Then, you’ll learn how to animate your name (or your favorite pet’s name) using code—brought to you by the incredible tutorial of Google CS First!
If you’re an InfinITGirl who is fierce, creative, and ready to think B-I-G, this is your day to shine. You will conceive of and build a project using the Makey Makey invention kit that will inform, inspire, and incite a riot! There will be a grand prize for the most inspirational project. Other highlights of the day: a Women in CS Jeopardy Game and an Animate a Name showcase.
Let’s skip school today and head down to the CS History Museum in Mountain View! We’ll not only have fun trying out all the cool, interactive exhibits, but we’ll also take part in a Raspberry Pi workshop where you’ll learn how to program in Python!
*Museum admission and transportation included*
